Acclaimed video game designer Jenova Chen claims that he has become suspicious of journalists.

Chen, who is the co-founder of thatgamecompany and directed this year’s celebrated innovative hit Journey, made the admission on Twitter in response to a post by fellow pioneering designer Jane McGonical.

“Most interviews I have given wind up with quotes that barely resemble what I actually said,” wrote McGonical. “They’re ‘frankenquotes’ (combined and mixed up).”

In reply, Chen tweeted: “Totally feel you. My attitude towards journalist (sic) has shifted from friendly to suspicious.”

Widely hailed as one of the industry’s most exciting young developers, Chen has given a number of interviews in the wake of Journey’s critical and commercial success – but has so far not revealed which journalistic encounters have led to this newfound mistrust.
