Gaming News: Resident Evil 6 Announced

Today Capcom has officially unveiled Resident Evil 6. The highly-anticipated sequel will be produced by Hiroyuki Koboyashi, who helped mastermind seminal reboot Resident Evil 4.

For the first time in the long-running series players will be able to take on the role of both Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield. And from what Capcom has reported so far, the sixth installment looks to be one of the biggest games in the franchise, with the developer describing the game’s story thus:

“It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision. At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack.  With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”

There will also be exclusive maps given out as pre-order bonuses at Gamestop, Amazon and other retailers. Each of these maps will function with various modes in the game.

Resident Evil 6 will release on November 20, 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version to follow sometime after the console release.
