Sony has announced that Playstation Network accounts will become known as Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) accounts from this week.

An email sent to Sony subscribers said: “This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, Playstation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network.” The email gave further details on this new transition by stating that the rebranding will create a “comprehensive network platform” of services across games, movies, music and other media.

The only change for this universal account will be in name only, and it won’t burden its subscribers with username or password changes.

Sony has stated that this rebranding will be introduced in a software update for the Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita on February 8th. No changes will be applied to the PSP for the time being.
