Game News: Ubisoft CEO Says “We’ve Been Penalized By The Lack Of New Consoles”

The next-gen consoles may be finally rolling into view, but it’s been an unusually long console generation these past 7 or 8 years – and Ubisoft CEO and co-founder Yves Guillemot believes that game companies and ultimately gamers have suffered as a result.

“We have been penalized by the lack of new consoles on the market,” he said, in an interview with Gamasutra.” I understand the manufacturers don’t want them too often because it’s expensive, but it’s important for the entire industry to have new consoles because it helps creativity.

“It’s a lot less risky for us to create new IPs and new products when we’re in the beginning of a new generation.”

Ubisoft have said they will be bringing new IPs to the Wii U, while an innovative new Rayman title – Rayman Legends – is also set to hit the console.
