Film News: “Every Kid Should See Toy Story Before They Turn 10″, Says Child Psychologist
“Not only does Toy Story entertain and engage children with its colourful animated characters,” explained Dr Kairen Cullen, “it also teaches children about inter-personal relationships and the acceptance of people from different walks of life; themes which stay with us as we grow up.”
Dr Cullen unveiled the list following a survey of 5,000 adults, with Toy Story winning due to its message that all people are different and have intrinsic worth.
The Lion King came second – picked out for teaching children about self-belief and overcoming challenges – while Home Alone was in at number three for detailing the importance of family.
Labyrinth, The Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, The Wizard Of Oz, The Neverending Story, Matilda and Up complete the list of ten.
“When it comes to choosing what to watch, the best films should expand a child’s mind and demonstrate key life lessons in a positive and encouraging way,” added Cullen.
