Paul Verhoeven’s Total Recall was released in 1990, garnered mostly positive reviews and is probably classed as a guilty pleasure/sci-fi classic. Its use of excessive violence was a trademark of Verhoeven’s movies and with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead it was sure to be successful.
